It's very hard to choose the first project for our new #culturalmusic series. So I just had to close my eyes and pick at random one of the thousands of records I'd like to keep for future generations of the Earth's inhabitants. Why are we starting this series? Simply because if we don't start helping people from from developing countries, countries that are struggling with hunger and disease, countries where reissuing music is not the first necessity, to preserve their cultural heritage, there's probably no one else to do it. We are not yet sure if this series will catch on and if it will find its fans, but why not give it a try?
A few words about this project. First of all, we really like the music presented here by this little-known Nigerian, it has a distinctly deep soul with distinct notes of Francis Bebey's psychedelia and Fela's intricate rhythmic patterns. Great music for an evening out with friends over a tasty bang or watching insects after a successful fly swatter, though also suitable for city walks or just staring at the ceiling.
